We have all been to the standard wedding receptions. We welcome and
celebrate the newlyweds, watch them dance, and have some cake. But
creative couples often come up with some fun wedding reception
games to include their guests.
Including the guest is a great way to get people out of their seats and
meeting people that might otherwise know and make them feel like they
are actually a part of the celebration instead of just watching from
the sidelines.
One fun game that can be enjoyed by all you guests, young and old,
is "want it now".
In this game, you pick a "master of ceremonies" (you can use the DJ
for this job if you wish). The MC will have a lists of "wants" that
has been prepared beforehand. The guests sit at their table and wait
until they hear the command. The MC will say something like he wants
someone with painted toenails. Everyone with painted toenails runs to
the MC. Every time a table sends someone up to the MC first, they get
a point.
At the end of the game points are tallied up and prizes are awarded.
Tips: make sure to have some obvious "wants" such as painted toenails,
man with a mustache, pink dress, etc. but also throw in some surprises
such as "man with a brown purse" which will require the man to find
a woman at this table with a brown purse and run it to the front.
Another great game is a twist on the classic musical chairs. You
have the men kneel on one knee and the women use them as the chair.
In this version of the game people are eliminated when either the man
or woman falls down when the woman tries to sit down. In either case
both the man and woman are eliminated. This is a fun game that often
brings howls of laughter and creates a fun, relaxed atmosphere.
If you have many guest coming from out of town or don't know many other
guests, It is always fun to include a game that will allow them to
get to know other guests as well as the bride and groom. For this
game you will again need a MC. The reception guests are split into
2 groups, which can be as simple as having people count off "1, 2, 1,
2" and so on. Then the two groups separate.
The MC then asks a series of questions about the bride and groom. The
teams work together to come up with the answer as quickly as possible.
The team answering the question correctly first gets a point. This
is an excellent way to get guest interacting and have fun in the
process. It is also a fabulous way for the guest to get to know
the bride and groom!
Organizing games at the wedding reception is a wonderful way to get
guests involved and make them feel they are a part of the celebration.
It is also a great way to fill the time, especially if you know this
isn't a dancing group or if you just want to loosen people up. Whether
it is a small or large group, reception games will work for just about
any group.
In addition, don't worry about guests being offended or annoyed by these
wedding games. Most people report to wedding planners that they really
enjoyed being more active and having something to do during the reception.
